Keeping your dog active is crucial to its health. All dogs need to be stimulated physically and mentally. You can keep your dog from boredom through regularly exercise .Your relationship with your dogs will be strengthen by playing healthy games with them daily. Games also increases body development and good muscles
Some great fun games that you can play with your dog can also teach agility and strengthen obedience commands such as stop, sit and stay. There are various types of games that can be played such as:
Catching the ball or Frisbee
Once you have your dog trained to fetch items, playing with a Frisbee can be great fun. You can throw a Frisbee much further than a ball, so the dog gets more exercise.
Tug of war
Tug of war is a great way to keep your dog entertained, but only if it is already trained to drop toys on command. You can buy specially made toys for tug of war games, which are stronger than normal toys. Also be careful not to play this game with puppies as their teeth may not be strong enough, and could be damaged
Ball games
All dogs love ball games, and could literally spend hours chasing down balls. Make sure your dog has learnt to fetch otherwise you could spend more of your time retrieving the ball yourself than playing with the dog. Also avoid playing with small balls that could go down the dogs throat, and always throw the ball away from it.
The Jump and Sit
The Jump and Sit is a great way for your dog to strengthen its leg muscles. Eventually you can work up to the dog jumping over the object, stop and sit and then proceed to the next jump on your command. Praise your dog and give a favorite treat after he jump.
The Circus Act
The Circus Act can be a really fun game. If you want to play this game with your dog it requires you to get a little dirty. You start with either Hula Hoops
There are plenty more dog games you can use for training your dog, like humans, dogs are easily distracted when learning, so incorporating a game into training sessions is a good way of teaching your dog commands. Don’t play a game for too long as the dog will become tired and not able to take on what you are trying to teach. Try different games variations to keep things interesting and stimulating for the dog. Just be sure to give your dog a lot of praise and a healthy drink of water after he play a game
The key is to make it very playful. Spending time with your dog exercising and having fun is rewarding for both you and your best friend. You will be surprised how much these exercises will benefit your relationship and also improve obedience in a fun way.
Whatever activity of exercise or games you decide to do to keep your dog happy and healthy, you always have to remember to be consistent and give your dog lots of love, praise and petting, and perhaps a ‘healthy’ treat.
